Charles Steven Grooms, 71, of Columbia, Tennessee passed away on February 20, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family.
Steve was born on October 8, 1947 to the late James Amos Grooms and Jewell Norman Grooms. He was a veteran of the Vietnam war having served in the Army. He enjoyed socializing and gathering with his many friends. There was never a dull moment when he was around. He played softball for McCandless Trucking and Webster Enterprise. He liked to go camping, fishing, hunting, riding motorcycles, playing cards, watching westerns on TV, horseback riding especially on Mule Day as well as farming with cows and horses. He drove a truck for himself and various companies over the years: Ryder, Harris Trucking, and Floyd & Floyd.
He is survived by his loving wife Cherri Grooms; two sons, Bryan Grooms (Sondra Barron) and James “Jay” (Jessie) Grooms; daughter Elizabeth Grooms; grandsons, Samuel McConnell, Benjamin Grooms, Hayden Grooms, Patrick Grooms, and Andrew Grooms; granddaughter Joella Grooms; great-granddaughter McKinley McConnell; step-mother Edna Lou Folsom and step-sister Shannon (Pete) Watkins. He was preceded in death by brothers, James Perry Grooms and Douglas Wayne Grooms; grandparents Tom and Eunice Norman, Bill and Grace Grooms, and his beloved dog and best friend, Rudy.
Services will be Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Williams Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be Friday, February 22, 2019 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM in Mt. Pleasant.
