Spring Hill

Charlene R. Hyjer, 97, formerly of California, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 5, 2025, at Morning Pointe Assisted Living Community in Spring Hill, TN, where she spent the last two wonderful years of her life. Born on October 6, 1927, Charlene lived a life full of joy, creativity, and kindness. She thrived in her new community, surrounded by caring staff and newfound friends who admired her warmth and grace. Throughout her life, Charlene embraced her passions, whether through crafting beautiful silk flower arrangements, diving into art projects, or channeling her competitive spirit as a former national badminton champion. In her later years, she enjoyed Bingo three times a week, eagerly joining the fun with her competitive yet lighthearted nature.

Charlene was the epitome of elegance and class. Every day, she dressed with care and style, always ready to brighten someone's day with a smile and a thoughtful conversation. She had a gift for making every person she met feel special, whether through a friendly chat or a simple act of kindness. Her love for life, people, and beauty radiated in everything she did.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Hazel Burgess, and her beloved husband of 48 years, Edward Hyjer. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Charlene is survived by her daughter’s and son’s families, who will fondly remember her for her thoughtful greetings, sending greeting cards filled with colorful confetti for every holiday—a tradition that will be dearly missed. She is also survived by daughter Patricia Hyjer Dyk and her husband Warren Dyk; son John Hyjer and his wife Patricia Hyjer; grandchildren Andrew Dyk (Natalie Dyk), Melinda Dyk Seley (Andrew Seley), Anthony Hyjer (Paola Hyjer), Drew Hyjer (Rosie Hyjer), and Grant Hyjer; as well as great-grandchildren Sarah Dyk, Katie Dyk, Jonathan Seley, Benjamin Seley, and Isla Hyjer.

Charlene's legacy of love, laughter, and creativity will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She touched so many lives with her kindness, and her memory will forever be cherished by her family and friends.

Interment will be at Sunset View Cemetery in El Cerrito, California, in late Spring.
