Carolyn Douglas

Carolyn M. Douglas, 78, of Mt. Pleasant, departed to be with the Lord at home on July 22, 2012. She was the daughter of the late Clarence H. and Kate K. Murphy, and the widow of the late Virgil E. Douglas whom she married on February 5, 1955.

Mrs. Douglas was the mother of Danny Laarni Douglas of Mt. Pleasant and Jerry Douglas of Murfreesboro. She was the grandmother of Jed Douglas of Murfreesboro and Penny Grace Douglas Lindsey Judd of Madison, and Daniel Moses Douglas and Lydia Hayes Douglas of Mt. Pleasant, and the great-grandmother of Harper Grace Judd of Madison.

She is survived by a sister, Dorothy M. Edwards, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters: Martha Hayes Murphy, Kathryn M. Edwards, Sara Ellen Murphy, and Anne M. Gibson. She leaves behind many friends including: Verba Cothran, Ed and Betty Tingley, Rick and Denise Gray, Paul and Barbara Carpenter, Wanda Scott Isom, Wilma Jean Odom, Middie Pumpas Parsley, Jean Rewis Meadows, Martha Hayes Milan, Margaret Adams Anderson.

She was baptized into Christ as a young girl Gal. 3:27 and faithfully followed her Lord for many years until her passing. She was a former Bible class teacher and enjoyed helping those in need, and preparing food for the sick, the shut- in, and the bereaved. She leaves behind a legacy of love for Christ, the church, the gospel, her family, and other people, and dedicated her life to "going about doing good."

She was a former employee of Stauffer Chemical Co., and retired in 1998 after several years in serving as the City Recorder for Mt. Pleasant. She was also a member of the Mt. Pleasant Civitan Club.

The visitation will take place on Tuesday, 4-8:00 p.m., and the funeral service will be on Wednesday, July 25, at 11:00 a.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, with Brother Olan Bassham, Brother Vernon Brooks and Brother Roelf Ruffner officiating. Brother Philip Crews will lead in congregational singing. Burial will follow in the Arlington Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.

Honorary Pallbearers: Elders, Preachers, and members of: The Beech Hill church of Christ, the Main St. church of Christ, and the Central church of Christ. Past and present employees of the City of Mt. Pleasant. Hay Long High School Class of 1951. Dr. Cummins Couch, David Hardison, John David Edwards, Glen Kinnard Larry Holden, Bob Murray, Mike Holden, James Patterson, and all the caregivers of Mrs. Douglas.
