Carolyn Ezell Blake, age 81, of Columbia, passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at NHC Maury Regional.
Carolyn was born on November 10, 1935 in Anniston, Alabama to the late J. W. “Easy” Ezell and the late Lucile Nelms Ezell. On June 4, 1954 she married the love of her life, the late Howard “Barney” Blake, Jr. and together they had four children, to whom she was extremely dedicated.
She had first moved to Columbia when her father took a job at Monsanto. After marrying Howard, she was committed to doing the best she could to be a good homemaker and help provide for her family. She worked at Wal-Mart before retiring. She loved sewing and crocheting. She was a member of First Baptist Church and was both a Cub Scout Den Mother and a Girl Scout leader for her children.
Carolyn is survived by her son: James Howard (Becky) Blake of Clemson, SC; daughters: Carol (Mac) MacMillan and Denise (Tony) Brunson of Columbia; grandchildren: Brandon (Haley) Blake of Kansas City, KS; Josh (Kat) Bozeman of Columbia; Caitlin Blake of Clemson, SC; Samantha Bozeman and Blake Brunson of Columbia; great-grandchildren: Tillman Blake and Elise Blake of Kansas City, KS; and Katie Bozeman and Oliver Bozeman of Columbia. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her beloved husband: Howard Blake on April 3, 2014 and daughter: June Denise Blake on September 15, 1961.
Funeral services for Mrs. Blake will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Chaplain Dennis Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends on Friday, March 31, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. also at the funeral home.
Brandon Blake, Josh Bozeman, Blake Brunson, Mac MacMillan, David Bozeman and James Bozeman will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff at NHC Maury Regional and Hospice Compassus.
