Mr. Carl T. Gardner, age 81, a resident of Leipers Creek Road in Santa Fe, passed away Saturday, April 7, 2007 at his residence.
Funeral services for Mr. Gardner will be conducted 2:00 pm Monday at the Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. Earl Davis, Terry Hundley, Rev. Paul Gardner and Rev. Susan Gardner officiating. Burial will follow in the Goshen Cemetery.
The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 to 9:00 pm at the funeral home.
The Maury Co. native was the son of the late Everett Gray and Mary Hogan Gardner and husband of Louise Baker Gardner. A lifelong farmer in the Santa Fe Community, he served on the board of directors of the Maury Farmers Co-op and the Maury County Farm Bureau. His farm was recognized as a century family farm in 2003 and a bridge on Leipers Creek was named in his honor in 2006. A lifelong member of Goshen United Methodist Church, he served as Sunday school superintendent, administrative board chairman and song leader. He devoted his life to singing gospel music with his family and in recent years sang with the Family and Friends Community Choir. He was a veteran of the US Army.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Rev. James Brenda Gardner of Lawrenceburg, Jerry Kathy Gardner of Santa Fe, Dr. Dennis Ginger Gardner of Columbia, Gail Kenneth Davis of Franklin and Randy Kim Gardner of Santa Fe; grandchildren, Nicole Jon Martin of Newbern, TN, Ryan Gardner, Eric Gardner, both of Santa Fe, Leslie Gardner, Stephanie James Harlan, and Ray Gardner, all of Columbia, Jason Davis of Franklin, Carrie Braxton West of Cary, NC, Areta Davis of Columbia, Lauren Gardner and Alex Gardner, both of Santa Fe; sisters, Ruby Ralph Fox of Madison, Blanche Hawkins of Santa Fe and Helen Anderson of Hermitage. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jacob Gardner and infant sister, Margaret Lucille Gardner.
Pallbearers will be grandchildren and David Gardner. Honorary pallbearers will be nieces and nephews, Gregg Ladd, Dr. B.I. Naddy, Grover Beard, Dr. Thomas Dake, Kirby White, Marion Sewell, Billy Warf, David Sewell, Jean Young, Randy McQuiston, members of the Goshen United Methodist Church, the Louis Scott family and members of the Family and Friends Choir.
Memorials may be made to the Goshen United Methodist Church or the Goshen Cemetery Fund.
