Mr. Carl Hunter Robinette, 90, a resident of Second Avenue in Mt. Pleasant passed away Sunday, April 9, 2006 at his home.
Funeral services for Mr. Robinette will be conducted Monday, April 10, 2006, at 2:00 pm at the Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Brother John Vaughn officiating. Burial will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends Monday from 12:00 noon until 2:00 pm at the funeral home.
The Hampshire native was the son of the late Will and Ethel Jones Robinette. He was first married to the late Audrey Scott Robinette, who preceded him in death in 1985. Later he married Marilyn Welsh of Melbourne, FL, who survives him. He was a graduate of Columbia High School, class of 1934. He was employed by Pigg Brothers Clothiers until 1938, at which time he went to work in sales for General Shoe Corporation in Arkansas and Kansas. On December 8, 1941, he enlisted in the US Navy and was assigned to San Diego, CA. In 1942, he entered the US Naval Academy Officers Program in Kansas City, MO. He was commissioned as a naval aviation officer in Pensacola, FL and served his country during WWII.
He is survived by a sister, Melba Robinette Vest of Mt. Pleasant; a brother, Will C. ?Bill? Robinette of Mt. Pleasant; two step-daughters, Marilynette Ron Thompson and Kellette Don Maibaum, both of Melbourne, FL; four nieces, Carol R. Bailey of Columbia, Julia E. Kenneth Weiss and Janet E. Earl Bentz, both of Nashville and Eleanor V. John Howard of Charleston, SC; two nephews, Ruskin Karen Vest of Columbia and Hunter Stephanie Robinette, of Mt. Pleasant. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ross J. Robinette and James Ashley Robinette; two sisters, Elizabeth Robinette and Mary Robinette Evans.
Pallbearers will be Ruskin A. Vest, Jr., Cecil Hunter Robinette, Jackson Collier Robinette, John B. Howard, John B. Howard, Jr., Ruskin A. Vest, III, Justin Hunter Robinette, Kenneth W. Weiss, L. Earl Bentz, Hugh R. Gaston and Nick Boutis. Honorary pallbearers will be Earl Hayes, Hyman Franks, Mike Pruitt, Hendley Edwards, Charles Vandiver, Harry Allen, Lawrence Douglas, Jeff Knox, Royce Nance, Kay Spears.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Cummins Couch, Ruby Vandiver, Irene Davis and Karen Vandiver.
