Mr. Cardia Lamont Smith, age 55, passed away at Maury Regional Medical Center on July 18, 2013.
Mr. Smith was born on October 13, 1957 in Terre Haute, Indiana to the late William Davis and the late Nancy Smith Dunn. He graduated from Terre Haute South Vigo High School and attended Vincennes University for 2 years and studied screen printing. By trade he was a carpenter with Jones and Jones Construction of Madison, GA for 22 years until moving to Columbia, TN. where he continued to work in the construction industry.
He married Georgett Bean on February 10, 1990, who survives him, and they raised a family together. Cardia loved to fish and to barbeque for his family. His family recalls two of his favorite sayings as being: “It’s hard to be me” and “It ain’t no fun when the rabbit’s got the gun.” Cardia was an avid NASCAR fan, always pulling for Tony Stewart to take the checkered flag. He was of the Church of God faith.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Smith is survived by his children: Cardia Lamont Smith, II, William Lawrence (Melissa) Martin, II, and Dewayne Lewis (Monica) Martin; grandchildren: Nylashia Fuller, Kortney Martin, Alana Martin, Dewayne Lewis Odell Martin, II, Kaelynn Nichole Fadiya Martin, Jordan Skye Hadiya Martin, Abrianna Willa’ Marie Amina Martin, Jeramyah Marshall and Sean Marshall; step-father: John D., Beckles; siblings: Vanessa Garrett, Timothy Dunn and Sylvester (Philana) Dunn; sister-in-law: Juanita (Dean) Russell; aunt: Stella Fairrow and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, plants, and fish.
Funeral services for Mr. Smith will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. Sylvester Dunn officiating. The family will visit with friends on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Both visitation and service will be held at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia, TN.
