Captola "Cappy" Reed

May 7, 1922 — October 29, 2016

Captola (Cappy) E. Oakley Reed, 94, of Columbia, was welcomed into the presence of her loving Heavenly Father on Saturday, October 29, 2016, at the Waynesboro Health and Rehab Center in Waynesboro, TN where she resided for the past 4 years. She was born on May 7, 1922 in Chicasaw, Oklahoma, the daughter of Ernest and Callie White Oakley. She married William (W.C.) Reed, Jr. in Santa Fe, TN on May 17,1941. She was widowed in 2000 after 59 years of marriage.

Cappy retired from her position as District Office Supervisor at Florida Telephone Company in Kissimmee, FL, where she served for 28 years. She was privileged to be part of a team that prepared her company to meet the demands of Walt Disney World when it opened in 1971. During that time, she was named Business Woman of the Year by the Business and Professional Women's Association of Kissimmee. After retiring, she and W.C. returned to Columbia, TN where they owned and operated The Magnolia Tea Room for several years. That led to a very busy and successful career as a caterer, and she catered large and small events all over Middle TN for many years. She was an amazing cook and was never happier than when she was in the kitchen preparing something delicious for her family and friends. She was also an avid reader and an accomplished seamstress. She loved her tiny poodle, Savannah, who was almost always by her side or on her lap.

Cappy was devoted to her family and friends. She was a gracious lady who loved doing things for other people. She was an active member of Columbia First Baptist Church and the Senior Citizens group for many years. Her faith was unshakable and her strength of character drew people to her.

Cappy is survived by her two daughters, Sandra (David) Stone of Waynesville, NC, and Pam Reed of Waynesboro, two grandchildren, Aaron (Brooke) Stone of Canton, NC and Miriam (Adam) Hemme of Jacksonville, NC, and twin grandsons, Aiden Stone and Noah Stone of Canton, NC, who brought her great joy in the last months of her life. She is also survived by her sisters, Theola Hood of Columbia and Faye Brown of Longwood, FL, and by many nieces and nephews. Cappy was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and three brothers, Harvell Oakley, Wallace Oakley, and Finis C.L. Oakley.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia at 2 pm on Wednesday, November 2, with visitation held from 12 pm to 2 pm prior to the service.
