C. Gordon Vire, Md

C. Gordon Vire, MD age 58, a resident of 1204 Sunnyside Drive, Columbia, passed away Monday, May 18, 2009 in the early morning hours.

Services will be held Thursday at 11:00 a. m. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Reverend Bill Williamson officiating. A graveside service will be held Friday at 11:00 a. m. at Murray Memorial Gardens in Murray, KY. The family will receive guests from 5:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. Wednesday at Williams Funeral Home.

Born January 31, 1951, in Monticello, Kentucky, Dr. Vire was the son of the late Clarence Walker Vire and the late Virginia Ruth Vire. Dr. Vire had two daughters, Gretchen Ruth Vire of Franklin, Tennessee and the late Jennifer Carol Vire. He leaves his wife of almost 38 years, Dinah Clayton Vire. Also, left behind are three sisters, Marilynn Vire Morgan of Bronston, Kentucky; Phyllis Vire Higginbotham of Greenwood, Mississippi; and Anita Vire Burch of Nashville, Tennessee.

After completing medical school at age 24, Dr. Vire was residency trained and board certified in three specialties Dermatology, Dermatopathology, and Family Practice. He practiced at Vanderbilt University and also three private practices in Kentucky and Tennessee.

Dr. Vire had been a Dermatologist and Dermatopathologist in Columbia, Tennessee for almost 20 years before illness required an early retirement. He served on Vanderbilt Dermatology staff and had a private practice and lab in Nashville before coming to Columbia. He also was a Family Physician in Murray, Kentucky in the late 1970's and early 1980's.

He was published in several medical journals and served as President of the Tennessee Dermatology Society. He also participated in training fellow Dermatologists.

He was an avid golfer and a member of four golf clubs including Graymere Country Club. He served as president of the Graymere Club and continued on it's board for many years. He enjoyed playing with several golf groups at Graymere Country Club throughout his 20 years of membership. He also loved to travel.

Pallbearers will be Ken Moore, Jim Hudson, Joe Wade, Tony Ball, Bill Wilson, Phillip Huddleston, Bill Hewlett, Moore Landers, Terry Mays, Allen Pressnell.

The family has requested that memorials go to the American Cancer Society, Maury County Unit, P. O. Box 1864 Columbia, TN 38402; James K. Polk Memorial Association, 305 W. 7th Street, Columbia, TN 38401; or First Presbyterian Church, 801 S. High Street, Columbia, Tennessee 38401.
