Mr. Burdes Lawton Thigpen, a resident of Columbia, died Sunday, January 4, at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville.
Funeral services for Mr. Thigpen will be conducted Wednesday, January 7, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Williams Columbia Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Adair officiating. Burial will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Born in Lauderdale County, AL, he was the son of the late Burnie and Mary Ima White Thigpen and husband of Vera Tripp Thigpen. He retired from General Services Administration of the Federal Government. A member of the Highland Park Baptist Church, he served in the US Navy during WW II.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Pat Thigpen Don Elsea of Chattanooga, TN; a son, Jimmy ?Jim? Deborah Thigpen of Paris, TN; a granddaughter, Meggen Thigpen of Paris, TN; a grandson, Preston Elsea of Chattanooga, TN; two sisters, Lois Holloway of Bonnertown, TN and Geneva Golden of Five Points, TN; a brother, Veston Thigpen of Bonnertown, TN.
Pallbearers will be Bill Dixon, Austin Perry, Corey Hood, Loyd Hood, Mark Thigpen and Tony Hardison. Honorary pallbearers will be Leon Whitlatch, J.W. Hay , Bill Walls and the Adult III Men Sunday School Class of Highland Park Baptist Church.
