Bryant Woody, Jr.

Mr. Bryant Woody, Jr., age 69, resident of Trotwood Avenue in Columbia, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at Life Care Center of Columbia.

Born May 18, 1941 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, he was the son of the late Bryant Woody, Sr. and the late Edna Bailey Woody. Bryant was the husband of Gewndolyn Gwen League Woody of Columbia. He retired from Atlantic Rich Field Oil Company known as ArCo as a diesel mechanic. After his retirement, Bryant worked for Hertz Rental Cars where he picked up cars all over California. He loved working on his mustang cars. Bryant was a member of the Friendly 15 Sporting Club and Wayman Chapel A.M.E. Church in Columbia.

In addition to his wife, Bryant is survived by a daughter, Kim Woody of Austin, Texas; two sons, Bryant Woody, III of Austin, Texas and Bryant Caldwell of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; step-son, Thomas Teresa Jackson of Nashville; two step-daughters, Tamra Akerson of Columbia and Denette Rick Ross of Oxnard, California; 10 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; six sisters, Inez Louis Rowland and Shelia Hashemi-sohi both of Newton, Kansas, Barbara Ann Woody, Annetta Michael McPherson, Linda Ware and LaVerne Woody all of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and three brothers, David Tressa Woody of Florence Kansas, Fred Douglas Margaret Woody of Las Vegas, Nevada and Adrian Woody of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Funeral services for Mr. Woody will be conducted at 12 Noon on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Wayman Chapel A.M.E. Church with Rev. Victor Goodman officiating. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens.

The Woody Family will receive friends from 3:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Friday, March 11, 2011 at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia and from 11:00 A.M. until service time on Saturday at the church.

Active pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Friendly 15 Sporting Club which include, Eugene Williams, James Archiball, Walter Mitchel, Palmer Harlan, Leni Nance, Douglas Jones, Wallace Baxter, Willie Wyatt, Charles Alderson and Eugene Richarson.

Williams Funeral Home in Columbia is in charge of the arrangements.
