Mr. Bruce V. Romesburg, long time resident of Columbia, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Monday, July 30, 2012 at Life Care Center of Columbia.
Bruce was one of ten children born to the late Jesse and Hazel Keefer Romesburg. He was born in Sand Patch, PA. He served honorably in the United States Army during WWII, having been stationed in New Guinea where he met his bride and love of his life, Nell Clair Morton Romesburg. The former Miss Morton was also a veteran having served as a member of the Women's Army Corp, also stationed there in New Guinea. Upon their return to the states, they were married at The Presidio in San Fransisco, CA. She passed away on December 2, 1994 after 49 years of marriage.
Having fulfilled their patriotic duty, Mr. Romesburg and his wife moved to Columbia, Tennessee and had a son, Wayne, together. Bruce worked at a few jobs in the area including as a circulation manager at the Maury Democrat. Later he worked as the parts manager for the Atwell Ford Dealership. However, Bruce was most well known for being a postal carrier. His daughter-in-law remembers that he was the mail carrier at her house when she was a young girl. He retired from the United States Postal Service in 1978.
Mr. Romesburg was a patriot all his life and was a lifetime member of each of the following veteran's groups: Chapter 22 of the Disabled American Veterans, The American Legion Herbert Griffin Post 19 and Post 4969 of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars. He was a long time member of the Berea Church of Christ and had many close friends in the congregation there. Additionally, Bruce was extremely proud to be an avid member of the Republican Party and had met many of the leaders of the party throughout the years. His family notes that he never liked to be called "Mr. Romesburg" but wanted everyone to just call him "Bruce".
In his early years he loved fishing and in the recent past, he and his son Wayne had begun to enjoy this past-time together again. It is a great memory that Wayne will treasure forever. Bruce also enjoyed watching Atlanta Braves baseball and to a lesser degree, the Cubs. His grand-daughter Rebecca remembers that her papa loved to take long drives in the car just enjoying being out and about. He loved having breakfast every day at Kathy's restaurant and was adored by the staff there. Then at 8:00 a.m. he loved going to Burger King to meet with the morning coffee drinkers.
Mr. Romesburg is survived by his son: Wayne Brenda Romesburg of Columbia; granddaughter: Rebecca Romesburg of Columbia; sisters: Evelyn Naugle of Champion, PA, Betty Shawley of Kecksburg, PA, Fay Bowman of Acme, PA, Janet Richard Shawley of Champion, PA, and Judy Barnhart of Champion, PA; his special sister-in-law, Mary Ann Fry of Columbia, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by his brothers: Paul and Robert Wayne Romesburg; and his sisters: Louise Stout and Mable Orendorf.
Graveside services for Mr. Romesburg will be held on Thursday, August 2, at 11:00 a.m. at The Arbors at Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors being provided by American Legion Herbert Griffin, Post 19. Bro. Carl May will be officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant on Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers that family requests that donation be made to the American Cancer Society, 2008 Charlotte Avenue, Nashville, TN 37033 or the American Heart Association, 1818 Patterson Street, Nashville, TN 37203.
