Britton Staggs

October 19, 1911 — December 11, 2002

Mr. Britton Staggs, 91, a resident of First Avenue in Mt. Pleasant, died Wednesday, December 11, 2002 at Alive Hospice of Nashville.

Funeral services for Mr. Staggs will be conducted Saturday, December 14, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at the Williams Mt. Pleasant Funeral Home with Rev. Dickey Lindsey, Rev. Charles Boyd and Rev. J.C. Christian officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery with military honors being provided by the Mt. Pleasant American Legion Post #10. The family will visit with friends Friday from 3:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

The Maury County native was the son of the late Charlie and Blanche Ashmore Staggs. He was the husband of Mary Louise Eksteen Staggs of Mt. Pleasant. After retirement from General Motors in Flint, MI he remodeled old cars and was also a carpenter. He served in the United States Army during World War II in which he was a tank driver for many maneuvers. He was a member of the Enterprise United Methodist Church and Mt. Pleasant American Legion Post #10.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters; Evelyn Cotton Massey of Mt. Pleasant and Faye Vaughn Sizemore or Madison, TN; a brother, Sewella Juanita Staggs of Columbia; three grandsons, Rickey Terry Massey and Rodney Massey both of Mt. Pleasant and Ronnie Staggs of Columbia; one granddaughter, Cathy Steve Newell of Goodlettsville; two great grandsons, Drew Massey and Adam Massey both of Mt. Pleasant; one great granddaughter, Jeanne Jeff White of Columbia and one great great granddaughter, McKenzie White of Columbia; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Alfred Eugene Staggs who died in 1999; a sister Catherine Whitwell; a brother Noble Staggs.

Active pallbearers will be Rickey Massey, Rodney Massey, Drew Massey, Adam Massey, Steve Newell, Ronnie Staggs, Eddie Wayne Whitwell and Charles Staggs.

The family wishes to show appreciation to Centennial Medical Center, the 8th floor staff; Parkview Medical Center staff and especially to Alive Hospice of Nashville.
