Blackie Norman

Blackie Norman, age 81, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at Maury Regional Medical center.

Blackie was born January 21, 1935 in Maury County, TN, the son of the late Thomas Norman and Eunice Logue Norman. In 1958 he married Mary Marche Norman and they had shared 58 wonderful years together. Blackie was a graduate of Hay Long High School in Mt. Pleasant and served our country in the United States Air Force. Blackie was of the Christian faith.

He farmed all of his life and owned and operated Norman’s Body Shop for 46 years. He loved his farm, enjoyed fishing and was an avid coon hunter. He loved football, NASCAR, going to the cow sales, enjoyed watching Austin City Limits and musicals with his wife. He loved his grandchildren dearly and from an early age, he made sure that they had vehicles to drive around on the farm. He loved raising horses and watching his family with the horses. You could say he was “all about family”. He was a generous, loving man who made sure his family was taken care of. The legacy he leaves behind to his family is to take care of others.

His humble upbringing instilled a need to care for others. His kind heart and generous spirit, lovingly provided for those in need..

Survivors include his wife, Mary Norman of Mt. Pleasant; three daughters, Barbara Norman Hinson of Columbia, Brenda Norman Richardson of Mt. Pleasant and Beverley (Jay) Green of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren, Lauren Norman, Kaleb Hinson, Kameron Hinson, Sam Hays (Justine) Richardson, Mary Kelsey Green and John Carter Green; one great-grandson, Hiram Hays Richardson; one brother, Howard (Margaret) Norman; sisters, Nadine (Don) Brogan, Juanita (Buddy) Freeman, Sharon Sain, Sarah Dale, Wanda (Jerry) Fly and Faye Woods and a multitude of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a beloved grandson, Gaylon James Richardson and siblings, Jewel Grooms, Billy Norman, Jerry Norman, and Annie Lee Tarpley.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, March, 19, 2016, at 1:00 P.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Wendell Spears officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Prayer at Polk Memorial Gardens with the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19 providing military honors. The family will visit with friends on Friday from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be John Carter Green, Kameron Hinson, Ronnie Marshall, Gilbert Marshall, Brent Burns and Tony Chapman. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Grooms, Zeke Sharpe, past and present employees of Norman’s Body Shop, his breakfast club, employees of Nance’s Body Shop, Don Crichton, Mike Adams, John Gilbreath, John Edwards, Kenny Cummins and Jerry York.
