Mr. Billy Joe Wren, age 74, resident of N. Main Street in Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Thursday, August 6, at Maury Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services for Billy Joe will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Phillip Wright and Rev. Eugene Barrett officiating. Entombment will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

The family will visit with friends on Saturday from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home with a Masonic service to be held at 7:00 P.M.

The Gibson County native was born December 4, 1934, the son of the late Elbert Lee Wren and Martha Louise Guy Wren. He was the husband of Betty Nolen Wren of Mt. Pleasant.

Billy Joe was the owner and operator of Wren's Furniture and Hardware in Mt. Pleasant for 37 years. Even though he was handicapped in his hands and feet he never allowed that to interfere with his ability to work. He loved trading knives and was lovingly known as a "horse trader". He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #610 in Mt. Pleasant. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant.

Billy Joe was a former employee of Wiseman Funeral Home in Erin, TN and moved to Columbia in 1958. He was a licensed mortician and worked for Williams Funeral Home for many years, both in Columbia and Mt. Pleasant.

Survivors in addition to his wife include one son: Bob Mary Wren of Mt. Pleasant; one sister: Verna Mae Wren Lee of Martin, TN; grandchildren: William Jamie Hutson of Mt. Pleasant, Jessica Justin Maggard of Mt. Pleasant and Elizabeth Wren of Mt. Pleasant; great-grandchildren: Heith Hutson and Wren Elizabeth Maggard both of Mt. Pleasant. He is also survived by special friends: Jerry Holt and Robert Musgrove. He was preceded in death by one brother: Bobby Ray Wren.

Pallbearers will be Gregg Neese, Gregg Cooper, Tony Chatman, Terry Bridges, Chris Angus, Mac Nolen, Chip Nolen and Ricky Lee. Honorary pallbearers will be all Mt. Pleasant merchants, friends of Wren's Furniture and Hardware, Raymond Workman and all employees of Williams Funeral Home.
