Billy Wayne Workman

October 11, 1950 — March 19, 2022

Billy “Nasty Bill” Wayne Workman, age 71, passed away Saturday, March 19, 2022, in Columbia, Tennessee.

Bill was born on a crisp, autumn day of October 11, 1950, to the late William Workman and Artie Lee Workman in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee.

A true Mt. Pleasant native, Bill was no stranger to his fellow neighbors in his community. He proudly attended S.H.I.T. school, Sandy Hook Institute of Technology, and graduated from Hay Long High School. As a young man, he established a career at Stauffer Chemical Company and dedicated nearly 30 years until his retirement at the age of 52.

Bill met the love of his life, Bobbie Berry, just a few weeks before Thanksgiving of 1977. They went on a total of six dates before he knew he couldn’t live without her, and they got married on January 9, 1978. They went on to raise three beautiful daughters and a son.

Bill rarely went a day without wearing his blue jean overalls and you could bet money he had cedar for whittling and buckeyes in his pockets. He loved talking about our family tree and all the sounds he heard in the woods at night. He didn’t need much to make him happy and he never missed a family get-together. He loved making his drop-offs to the kids of at least four full bags of little Debbie cakes, cereal bars, and pub pretzel mix.

He’d never say the word “bye” because he said that it meant forever. None of us were ready for him to go and we can’t imagine a life without him in it. What a reunion he must have had last night with Travis and his parents in Heaven, and we know he is finally at peace.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Bobbie Workman; three daughters: Sherry (Barry) Boshers, Sandy (Jason) Bratton, and Sheena (Johnathan) Stanfill; grandchildren: Ciji (Frank Stubblefield) Robinette, Britta (Will) Lanius, Tabitha (Roger) Brooks, Faith Manning, Ellie Bratton, Baker Bratton, Emily (Ryan) Schroeder; great-grandchildren: Lennon Robinette, Barrett Robinette, Aria Brooks, Dannica Brooks, Miles Brooks, Reagan Brooks, Reeves Stubblefield, and Jagger Lanius; and siblings: Faye (Wallace) Chapman and Vicky Sutherlin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bill is preceded in death by his son, Travis Wayne Workman; great-granddaughter: Kennedy Brooks; siblings: Donald Workman, W.H. Workman, R.L. Workman, Jody Crews, Bobby “Red” Workman, Ollie Houston Workman, Ollie Paul Workman, and Mary Anne Workman.
