Billy Strickland, a Navy veteran and dedicated employee of the Federal Highway Administration, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2023, at the age of 93. Born on March 19, 1930, in Willow, Arkansas, Billy led a life characterized by unwavering commitment and a quiet contentment.
Billy was born to James Strickland and Lily Westerman, who provided him with a loving and nurturing environment. Following his graduation from high school, Billy felt a strong sense of duty and patriotism, leading him to enlist in the United States Navy in 1950. He proudly served his country for four years, valiantly defending its shores until his honorable discharge in 1954.
After his military service, Billy began his career with the Federal Highway Administration, where he would dedicate himself for over four decades until his retirement at the age of 70. As a devoted employee, he played an instrumental role in the development and improvement of the nation's highways, contributing to the growth and safety of countless communities.
While Billy was a hardworking and committed professional, he found solace and tranquility in the simple joys of life. In his later years, he spent most of his days sitting in his recliner, in the sunroom, gazing out the window. The beauty of nature, whether it be the changing seasons or the vibrant colors of the sunset, brought him a sense of serenity and reflection.
Billy is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Bess Strickland, and his daughter: Kathy Williamson.
Bill is survived by his children: Joey Strickland and Mark Beckwith and 6 grandchildren.
A service for Billy will be held Friday, June 16, 2023 at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia, at 1:00 PM. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at 12:00 PM at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia, Tennessee. Billy will be laid to rest next to his wife at Polk Memorial Gardens in Columbia, Tennessee.
