Billy Hugh Smith, age 81, of Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2014 at Maury Regional Medical Center.
Billy was born on January 13, 1933 in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee to the late Sam Hugh Smith and Louise Holt Smith. Billy married Patricia Ellis on June 6, 1965. Billy proudly served his country in the United States Army. He retired from Maury County Water System after years of service. Billy served as a song leader at multiple Baptist churches in the area and at many revivals. He was the song leader at Riverview when he became ill. Singing was his passion. He was a member of the Lions Club in Mt. Pleasant for over 40 years and served in various positions. He was an avid fan of the Vols and the Lady Vols. Billy was a lifelong farmer and enjoyed teaching his grandson about farming. He enjoyed family vacations to Gulf Shores, Alabama. He was a member of Riverview Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.
The family will visit with friends on Monday, December 22, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia. Funeral services to celebrate Billy’s life will be Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee with Bro. Ezell Rose and Bro. Milton Hicks officiating. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens.
Billy is survived by his loving wife of 49 ½ years Patricia Ellis Smith of Mt. Pleasant; one daughter: Amy (Harold) Hinson; one grandson: Samuel Wayne Hinson all of Mt. Pleasant; three sisters: Catherine (Frank) McBride of Columbia, Martha (Randy) Jackson of Columbia and Shirley Smith of Mt. Pleasant; one brother: Wayne Smith of Panama City, FL; Sister-in-law Ernestine Smith, Brother-in-law Butch (Melissa) Ellis; seven nephews: Jeff Sisk, Dr. Tony Smith, Mark Hines, Tim Smith, Scott Jackson, Brian Jackson, and Steve Ellis; two nieces: Debbie Vincent and Karen Hood.
Billy was preceded in death by one brother: J.L. “Chicken” Smith; two sisters: Dot Hines and Carolyn Sisk.
Pallbearers will be Sam Hinson, Jeff Sisk, Dr. Tony Smith, Tim Smith, Mark Hines, Scott Jackson, Brian Jackson, and Leo Cole Sr. Honorary Pallbearers will be The Men’s Sunday school class of Riverview Baptist Church, Jimmy and Ruby Aslinger, Donna Cole, Butch and Melissa Ellis, Dalton and Lillian Hayes, Bob and Martha Hull, W.C. and Geri Johnson, and Michelle Lovett.
