Billy Ray Bennett

Billy Ray Bennett was born December 1, 1950 in Maury County, the son of the late Myrtle Olie Bennett and Mattie Parker Bennett. Billy was an outstanding football player at Hay Long High School in Mt. Pleasant. He had attended Columbia State Community College and was a lab technician in the Waste Water Treatment Plant for the City of Spring Hill. Billy faithfully served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was a member of the American Legion. He was a former member of the Mt. Pleasant Lions Club. In 1973 he married his best friend and wife of 37 years, Gloria Bennett of Mt. Pleasant.

Other family members include his children: April James Scott of Mt. Pleasant and Troy Gina Bennett of Lawrenceburg; three sisters: Ruth Ann Shelton of Huntland, TN, Ruby Isbell of Summertown and Barbara Robert Bolton of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren: Austin Bennett, Chloe Bennett, Isaac Bennett, Sara Bytwerk, Elizabeth Bytwerk, Christian Bytwerk and Taylor and Savannah Scott. In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by a sister, Annie Mae Boshers, and a brother, Elijie Olie Bennett.

Billy passed away on Tuesday, April 12, at his residence.

Funeral services for Mr. Bennett will be conducted Friday at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor David Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be his nephews, Wade Boshers, Jeffrey Boshers, Joey Bennett, Andy Shelton, Bob Bolton and Tyler Isbell.

The family will visit with friends on Thursday from 4:00 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
