Billy G. Jones Sr.

Billy “Bill” Gene Jones, Sr., age 83, passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2022, in Lewisburg, Tennessee.

Bill was born on May 9, 1939, in Columbia, Tennessee to the late Ernest and Virginia Jones of Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee.

Bill is survived by his wife, Peggy (Brown) Jones; his three children: Kay Story (Ralph), Billy Jones, Jr. (Andrea), and Susan O’Donoghue (Conor); three sisters: Marilyn Foppiano (Pete), Gwen Dugger, and Sherrie Agee; and four brothers: Wayne Jones (Etta), Larry Jones (Debbie), Darren Jones (Pam) and Steve Jones.

Bill was blessed with seven wonderful grandchildren: Brandon Lee, Brittany Heady, Alex Jones, Whitney Lowe, Jacob Jones, Meghan O’Donoghue, and Shannon O’Donoghue; and four equally amazing great-grandchildren: Hannah Beckham, Bentley Williams, Emory Williams, and Charlie Kate Jones.

Bill retired as a Feeder Driver with United Parcel Service. Throughout those 30+ years, he developed lifelong friendships with people he met up and down the interstate. Most knew him as “Sad Sack”. Yes, he traveled the roads during the days when all truckers used CB radios to communicate and no one ever knew your real name, but they certainly knew your handle. Bill had a penchant for all things electronic. He could fix anything, including stereos, televisions, but most especially CB radios. Drivers from across the United States would send him their CB radios to solder back together because they knew he could fix even the most damaged … and he did!

In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his brother, Gary Jones.

The family will receive friends and visitors on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The funeral Service will be held Thursday, December 8, 2022, at 2:00 PM with one hour of visitation prior. Randy Kersey will be officiating the service. To follow, Bill will be laid to rest in the Garden of John at Polk Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers are Brandon Lee, Alex Jones, Jacob Jones, Darren Jones, Steve Jones, Jarred Cothern, and Dennis Cothern.
