Mr. Billy Joe Taylor, age 72, a resident of Knob Creek Road in Columbia, passed away Thursday, November 18 at his residence.
The Maury County native was born August 5, 1938, son of the late Joseph Alton and Laura Godwin Taylor. He was married to Carolyn Joan Blocker Taylor, the love of his life for 54 years. Mr. Taylor was a graduate of Spring Hill High School and he started his career in the milk delivery service with Jersey Pride in 1956. After it was bought out by Yogi s Purity Milk, he worked there until his retirement. He loved his farm and raising cattle.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Taylor is survived by his children: Ricky Joe Jannes Taylor and Billy Kent Darlene Taylor, both of Columbia and Penny Theodore Durham of Summertown; grandchildren: Ricky Joe Carla Taylor Jr., Melissa Ryan Kelley, Allison Durham, Natalie Durham, Brittany Dustian Whitwell, Billy Kent Taylor Jr., Haley Durham, Brandon Hilton and Matt Hilton; great grandchildren: James Ryan Kelley, Lauren Taylor Kelley, Katelyn Taylor, Hope Taylor and Austin Cole Taylor. He was preceded in death by a son: Keith Taylor; a sister: Easter Yancy.
Funeral services for Mr. Taylor will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, November 20 in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Bro. Jeff Boo Spears and Bro. Theodore Durham officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Hills Cemetery in Theta.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Joe Taylor Jr., Billy Kent Taylor Jr., James Ryan Kelley Jr., Ryan Kelley Sr., Robin T. Crouch and Charlie Kuhn. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Thornburg, all the employees of Purity Milk Company and the friends and neigbors of Knob Creek Road.
The family will receive friends Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
