Billy Marshall Gunnell, age 85, Columbia resident, passed away on Wednesday, August 15, at Maury Regional Medical Center.
Billy was born June 11, 1933, in Spring Hill, TN, the son of the late Jessie Clinton Gunnell and Willie Mae Hayes Gunnell. He was retired as a foreman of the yards with Occidental Chemical Company. Billy had served two years in the United States Army and was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene where he served on the church board and head usher. He was also an avid Atlanta Braves fan.
Billy is survived by his wife of 58 ½ years, Betty Musgrove Gunnell; one sister, Jessie Lee Ross and one niece, Brenda (Richard) Vaughn, both of Franklin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Johnson.
Funeral services for Billy will be conducted Sunday, August 19, at 4:00 P.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. Steve Robertson officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens.
The family will visit with friends on Sunday from 2:00 – 4:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Sharp, Lavon Hooie, Wayne Harris, Wayne Patterson, Chester Hutcherson, Wesley Robertson and Adam Robertson.
