Ms. Bettye Joann Barnett, 70, passed at her Culleoka home on Friday February 19, 2010.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at Williams Funeral Home of Columbia with services to follow immediately, officiated by Rev. Gary Wedgewood.
Bettye's life was a blessing to us all. She was born on October 20, 1939 to parents Claude and Berneice Humphreys Church in Warshuga, WA. She was the only girl with 4 very protective brothers. Many of her childhood years were spent in Yakima, WA and on the family homestead in Moxee, WA. She was raised to work hard, have high morals and most importantly to have love and respect for everyone. She was a very generous and caring individual. She was always willing to put everyone before herself. She was always there with an "open ear" if ever needed.
She overcame many hurdles in her life which made her the strong independent woman she was. In 1977, she fulfilled a lifelong dream and received her Nursing Degree from Columbia State Community College. She truly enjoyed her career as a Geriatric Nurse where she found much fulfillment to help her patients and their families in their time of need. She also served for the USO. In 1985, she went on a trip to Hawaii with her Nursing friends that she truly enjoyed. Her many hobbies in life included reading, writing, going to yard sales, puzzles, fishing, gardening and of course going to bingo. Betty's most important role in life was as a mother and a as grandmother to her "Babies", that meant everything to her.
She is survived by her children: Cheryl Ray Stanfill of Culleoka, Shirley Horace Wrather of Columbia, Milton "Buddy" Barnett of Greenbrier and William "Will" Barnett of Jacksonville, FL; her grandchildren: Shannon Meadors and Jennifer Wyeth, both of Columbia, Melissa Stanfill, Misty Gabe Sanchez, Mendy Travis Choate, all of Yakima, WA; Kayla Barnett of Pulaski, Rachel Barnett of Greenbrier and Michaela Barnett of Jacksonville, FL; her great-granchildren: Miranda Wrather of Mt. Juliet, Jacob Wrather of Columbia, Gabriel Alexander Sanchez, Savannah Alexis Sanchez and Isabella Faith Sanchez, all of Yakima, WA, Jackson Meadors of Columbia and Colton Klinard of Greenbrier. Additional survivors are her 4 protective brothers: Eugene Church of Idaho, Vernon Virginia Church of Oregon, Jimmy Lola Church and Kenny Church, both of WA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her infant sons: Milton Andrew Barnett Jr. and Jason Dewayne Barnett.
Special thank you to Dr. Doug Kennedy and his nurse Alecia.
