Bettye Jean Kerr

September 16, 1932 — December 19, 2006

Mrs. Bettye Jean Workman Kerr, age 74, a resident of Maple Street in Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 19, in Maury Regional Hospital.

Funeral services for Mrs. Kerr will be conducted Friday at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Randy McNeese and Hueston Marshall officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens.

The family will visit with friends on Thursday from 4:00 ? 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

The Maury County native was the daughter of the late M.W. ?Pean? Workman and Esther Attkisson Workman. She was a 1951 graduate of Hay Long High School where she was a cheerleader and basketball player. She was retired from Mt. Pleasant Manufacturing Co. where she held the perfect attendance record for a number of years. She was an avid sports fan and a loyal supporter of the Mt. Pleasant Tigers and the University of Tennessee Volunteers. She sponsored a Mt. Pleasant High School Softball trophy since the program?s inception in 1987.

Survivors include one daughter: Karen Jean Kerr of Mt. Pleasant who was born on Bettye?s 23rd birthday; two special ?daughters?: Barbara Crews Karch of Mt. Pleasant and Susan Benderman of Columbia; two special ?grandchildren?: Jennifer Karch and Richard J. Karch, Jr.; a special granddog, Gracie. She was preceded in death by an uncle, Buford ?Boots? Attkisson, for whom she was the primary caregiver for many years.

Pallbearers will be Richard Karch, Jr., Jim Spears, John Swaner, Dudley McCormick, Andre Baker and Ronnie Dugger. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Robert Bain, Kay & Jim Spears, Tim Spears, Geneva & John Swaner, Hugh Johnson, Mary Lee & Ray Hart, Chris Elder, the Mt. Pleasant High School Athletic Department, employees of Hidden Acres Health Care, members of the Hay Long High School class of 1951 and former employees of Mt. Pleasant Manufacturing.
