Betty Morton Carroll

October 10, 1925 — February 9, 2012

Mrs. Betty Morton Carroll was born October 10, 1925 in the Cathey's Creek Community, the daughter of the late Charles Morton and Nancy Jones Morton. Betty and her husband William enjoyed 63 wonderful years together. They traveled all over the United States, having driven to Alaska twice. One of Betty's most favorite places was Colorado and she and William were affectionately known as the "gypsies" by their friends. Betty loved to fish and in William's own words, she could "out fish" him any day. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends but one of her greatest joys in life was doing for others, whether it meant taking a meal, sending a card of a special visit. Betty was a registered nurse and retired after many years with NHC Hillview. She had received her nursing training at Nashville General Hospital. Betty and William were longtime members of the Eastside Church of Christ.

Survivors in addition to her husband include two sons, Bill Patsy Carroll of Greeneville, TN and Randy Joanne Carroll of Columbia along with 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and James Morton and one sister, Virginia Fraser.

Funeral services for Mrs. Carroll will be conducted Monday at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Joe Macer officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens.

The family will visit with friends on Sunday from 3:00 – 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Doug Fraser, Ed Johnson, Jeff Carroll, Patrick Carroll, Levi Carroll and Brian Oenga.
