Betty Sue Fite Maxedon, age 82, and a long-time resident of the Zion Community, passed away at Morning Pointe Assisted Living in Columbia on Monday, November 4, 2013.
Betty was born on March 19, 1931 in Gassaway, Tennessee to the late Dixie Floyd Fite and the late Mary Beatrice Pugh Simmons. She married her husband Ray Winford Maxedon of nearly fifty years on December 26, 1950. He preceded her in death after 48 years of marriage October 12, 1999.
She was a long-time member of Graymere Church of Christ and a faithful Christian lady, having taught Sunday School for many years. She also read the Bible in its entirety each year for many years. She was a wonderful homemaker, wife and mother, loving every minute of caring for her family. She was an excellent cook, especially loving to cook for family. She loved to spend every minute she could camping with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, especially making dishcloths to share with friends and family. Before retirement, she worked as an office manager.
She is survived by her children: Gary Winford (Belinda Sue) Maxedon, Donald Ray (Cathy) Maxedon and Susan Gail (Bobby) Bishop; grandchildren: Melissa Ann (Cory) Miller, Miranda Leigh Dye, Traci Leanne (Ryan) Whiteside, Brian Edward (Lacee) Maxedon, Joshua Thomas (Kara) Bishop, Amanda Leigh Maxedon, Amy Elizabeth (Daniel) Neff and Anna Rae Bishop; great-grandchildren: Robert Miller, Avery Miller, Olivia Miller, Kinsley Dye and Knox Dye.
Funeral services for Mrs. Maxedon will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Wendell Robinson and John R. Vaughan officiating. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends on Friday, November 8, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Her grandsons and great-grandsons: Brian Edward Maxedon, Joshua Thomas Bishop, Robert Miller, Avery Miller, Knox Dye, Bobby Bishop, Daniel Neff, Ryan Whiteside, Dwayne Maxedon and Ricky Maxedon will serve as pallbearers. Elders and Deacons of Graymere Church of Christ will serve as honorary pallbearers.
