Betty June Hobson Roberts

March 18, 1937 — March 2, 2012

Mrs. Betty June Hobson Roberts was born on March 18, 1937 to the late Fate and Tera Williams Hobson in Athens, Alabama. They moved to the Columbia area during her childhood where she met the love of her life and future husband Boyd Roberts. They met at a hotdog roast at Viola Baptist church and married when Betty was 14 years old. Boyd and Betty made a home and a family together for over 60 years. Betty Roberts passed away surrounded by her loving family and friends on Friday, March 2, 2012.

Betty's children say that she was a wonderful mother who spoiled them rotten. She loved taking care of her husband and children. She loved all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren that called her "Momma Betty". For 9 years she and Boyd sang in a gospel quartet with their best friends, Era and Ralph Sims. She loved camping and had great camping friends. Crocheting and making things were some of her favorite hobbies, but nothing would stop her from watching what she called "my story", Days of our Lives every day. Boyd says that wherever they were, when 1:30 p.m. rolled around, Betty would say, "Let's go home. I've got to watch my story". While Betty was a wonderful homemaker, she also worked outside the home as a cashier at Hancock Fabric Store for many years and she was a member of Northside Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, Boyd, she is survived by her children: Sherry Kirby, Rhonda Donnie Putnam and Freddy fiance' Christy Madden; her grandchildren: Rodney Huckaby, Tara Huckaby, Courtney Jeff Saum, Casey Robert Russell, and Taylor Roberts; and her great-grandchildren: Danielle Huckaby, Tyler Huckaby, Chelsea Murphy, Brittany Blocker, Cole Blocker, McKenzie Putnam and Aiden Saum. She is preceded in death by her sister: Elizabeth Roberts; and her great-granddaughter: Ashley Huckaby.

Services for Mrs. Roberts will be held Monday, March 5, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Williams Funeral Home in Columbia. Bro. John Rushing, Bro. Ron Gleaves, and Bro. Walter Clot will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Sims, Dottie Dennison, members of the Lead On Sunday School Class at Northside Baptist Church, Jeweldean Brown, Marion Dugger, Mr. and Mrs. Perry Rodgers, and her camping friends.
