Betty M. Holder

Mrs. Betty M. Holder, age 83, passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Maury Regional Hospital in Columbia. She had been living in Columbia for several years while helping her daughter and son recover from surgery.

Betty Bates was born on September 15, 1932 in Maury County, Tennessee to William and Lou Annie McNeil Bates. She married William Freeland Holder on November 27, 1949. She was a wonderful and caring mother and homemaker. She enjoyed taking care of her yard, her house, and her flowers. She loved to wash her car, even in the winter. She always made sure her kids’ clothes were neatly pressed. In her later years, she enjoyed sitting with elderly people who were ill or recovering from hospitalization. She was able to encourage her patients with her tender, loving care. During the last few years, while living with her children, they enjoyed spending time together watching TV, talking about their day, and praying together.

Visitation for Betty will be Monday, January 11, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, TN. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2:00 PM. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant following the service.

Betty is survived by her daughter Deborah Holder and son Terry Holder both of Columbia; her brother Billy Bates of Orlando, FL; granddaughter Taylor Holder, grandson Zachary Holder, and great-grandson Britton Holder all of Clarksville, TN. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews; a special friend Leah Sartino; special nieces Kandi Escue-Hardison and Pat Sims; and special nephews Butch (Peggy Golden) Holder and Dudley Delfs.

She was preceded in death by her parents William and Lou Ann Bates; her husband William "Buster" Holder; her infant son William Douglas Holder; her sisters Doris Escue, Vivian Searson, Juanita Gibson, and Mary Lee Love.

Pallbearers will be Francisco De La Rosa, Wendell Spears, Yeiser Ross, Dudley Delfs, Tim Bailey, and Jay Green. Honorary Pallbearers will be Butch Holder, Doug Ailor, and Sammy McCanless.

The family would like to thank the staff in the Maury Regional Critical Care Unit, including Dr. Jon Freels, Tammy Stokes, and Talitha Harris (TnT - dynamite), who came in and prayed and spoke about the Bible with them to help deal with their pain. Other CCU employees Katy Logan, Katy Gurman, Ruth Fletcher, and Logan gave them special treatment while they were there. Two special employees on the third floor, Michael Powell and Daniel Patterson, prayed with the family the night before her passing.
