Betty Gower Countiss

Betty Gower Countiss, age 84 of Columbia, Tennessee went to be with her Lord October 11, 2016.

Betty was born August 4, 1932 in Town Creek, Alabama to Lorenza and Minnie Young Gower. On April 12, 1952 she married Joseph Countiss, Sr., and the two were married 49 years until he passed away in 2001. Betty was very strong in her faith, and she served God in a quiet and unassuming way. She was a devoted member of Pleasant Heights Baptist Church since 1963. She loved helping others – her many ways of service included volunteering at NHC Hillview, taking meals to those in need, working in the church nursery and praying for others.

The family will gather with friends Friday, October 14, 2016 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted in the Chapel of Williams Funeral Home Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. with Bro. Bob Vassar and Taz Farmer, and Joe Countiss officiating. Entombment will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Betty is survived by her children, Dorothy Lynn (Tom) Cowan of Columbia, Merri Ann (Taz) Farmer of Spring Hill, Nancy Elizabeth (Bruce) Fenwick of Louisville, Kentucky, and Joseph R. (Lisa) Countiss, Jr. of Gainesville, Georgia; grandchildren, Rachel Dyer, Hannah Countiss, Rebekah (Heath) Martin, Emily Countiss, Jennifer (Joe) Musick, Jessica Farmer, Daniel (Katy) Countiss, Joshua Countiss, Ben (Trisha) Cowan, Adam Farmer, Tyler Fenwick; seven great grandchildren; and one brother, Larry Thomas (Gale) Gower of Winchester. She was preceded in death by her sister, Elinor Marie Craig.

Pallbearers will be Adam Farmer, Tyler Fenwick, Ben Cowan, Joshua Countiss, Daniel Countiss, and Joe Musick. Honorary pallbearers will be Grace Sunday School Class from Pleasant Heights Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant Heights Baptist Church, 2712 Trotwood Ave, Columbia, TN 38401.
