Mrs. Betty E. Bible Childress, age 78, resident of Columbia, passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2014, at Life Care Center in Columbia, Tennessee.
Betty was born on November 6, 1936 in Greenville, Tennessee to the late Seth T. Bible and the late Julie Kirk Bible. On August 16, 1952 she married Jack Childress and they had three sons together. They raised their family together in the same home for over forty years and built many happy memories. Betty was hard worker both as a homemaker and outside the home as a seamstress at sewing factories in the community.
Her sons recall that she was their “Go To” and “Nanny” to the grandchildren. She had many other titles as well, and was just really the “everything” to the family. Betty loved nature and Native American artifacts. She also enjoyed many vacations out West with her family over the years and her porch displayed rocks collected from all the states she had travelled through. She also loved the beach and made many frequent trips, especially during the time when her son Mark lived there. From that time in her life she collected many shells and shark teeth. She could make any kind of plant grow, and had a real way with cactus. She made crafts, and enjoyed flea markets and yard sales. Betty also loved animals, especially puppies and goats.
Mrs. Childress is survived by her husband: Jack Childress of Columbia; sons: Mark and Bobby Childress of Columbia; daughter-in-law: Judy Childress of Columbia; eight grandchildren Leanne, Chance, Brandy, Sherry, Nathan, Cody all of Columbia and Ben and Christine, both of LaPorte, IN; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; brothers: Seth T.
