Betty Cantrell Liles

Mrs. Betty Grooms Cantrell Liles, age 83, longtime resident of Maury County, passed away on Tuesday, October 13, at the home of a granddaughter in Ashland City.

Funerals services for Mrs. Liles will be conducted Friday at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Dickey Lindsey officiating. Burial will follow in the Ebenezer Cemetery.

The family will visit with friends on Thursday from 12:00 noon until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Born on February 9, 1926 in Maury County, Betty was the daughter of the late Arthur Grooms and Vera McCullum Grooms. She was first married to the late Wilburn Cantrell and later to the late C.L. Liles. Betty worked as a supervisor for Weather Tamer for a number of years. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Two of Betty's favorite pastimes were crocheting and working in her flowers. She was of the Pentecostal faith.

Survivors include her children Glenda Parson of Columbia, Stanley Kathy Cantrell of Columbia, Sherry Johnson of Santa Fe, Vicki Richard Calvert of Summertown, Melissa Hendrix of Columbia and Steve Charlene Cantrell of Mt. Pleasant; one sister: Mary Elizabeth Powell of Mt. Pleasant; 28 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Betty is also survived by her best friend for many years, Sandy Brewer. She was preceded in death by one brother: C.V. Grooms and two grandchildren: Bridget Cantrell and Jeremiah Cantrell.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Johnson, Patrick Johnson, Brandon Cantrell, Waylon Cates, Daniel Cates, Richard Calvert and Michael Hendrix. Honorary pallbearers will be Rita Williams, Billy Cantrell, Josh Gibson, Kevin Gibson, Andrew Rich, Coby Edwards, Jonathan McGee, Marvin Ray Thomason and Steven Hendrix.
