Mrs. Bertie Allean Howell Barnett, 66, a resident of E. 9th Street in Columbia, died Wednesday, May 11, 2005 at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville from complications due to heart surgery.

Funeral services for Mrs. Barnett will be conducted Sunday, May 15, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. at the Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Bro. Ronnie Parrish, Bro. Brian Wiesinger and Bro. Rick Points officiating. Burial will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Friday from 3:00 to 9:00 pm and Saturday from 2:00 until 9:00 pm at the funeral home.

Born Sept. 18, 1938 in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late Houston Howell and Alice Green Howell Cox, wife of Charles William Barnett, step daughter of the late Samuel Gifford Cox and the youngest of 12 children. She attended Maury County schools and graduated from Columbia Business College in 1959. She worked many years for the State of TN Drivers License Division and the last few years of her life were spent as a private sitter. She attended Colonial Meadows Church for Christ, where she previously served as Sunday School teacher and church secretary. She loved her family dearly, but her true love was for the Lord, Jesus Christ.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Rose Mary Ronnie Kelly of Columbia; two sons, James David Holly Barnett and Charles William Barnett, both of Columbia; a brother, Bobby Iris Howell of Lewisburg; a sister, Rose Bob Watson of Romulus, MI; 11 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; several cousins, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Mabel, Ruby and Frankie; six brothers, Eugene, John Henry, M.C., Vernise, Jack and Sam; a granddaughter, Crystal Allean Kelly.

Pallbearers will be Steven Barnett, Zach Jewell, Jay Dillehay, Brian Akers, Ricky Howell and Roger Howell. Honorary pallbearers will be Lester Toy, Doug Parrish and the men of Colonial Meadows Church for Christ.

Memorials may be made to the Gideon Bible Foundation.
