Barry “Lucky” Gene Henson, age 62, passed to the other side Monday, November 7, 2022, in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. Seven was his favorite, lucky number.
Barry was born on October 22, 1960 to Joyce Blackwood Garland in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, in the same building that he stayed in the year proceeding his death, now operated as NHC Brink Nursing Home. Special thanks to their nursing home staff for loving and caring for him during his long-term stay that ended in such an unpredictable way. The family is thankful for his essential workers who saw Barry as the special, one of a kind person he was.
Barry had a special connection with his daughter Bobbie Jo Lynn Henson, and loved being surrounded by the warmth and laughter of his grandchildren and family. Barry enjoyed the simple things in life, such as; fishing in the family pond, front porch sittin’, listening to old country music, being a devoted cat dad, drinking Mountain Dew, watching the sunset, and always making time for a smoke break. Barry especially enjoyed NASCAR, and watching old Westerns on MeTV.
Quoting Barry from a letter written in 1999, that was not to be opened until after his death, he once said, “To all of the rest of you, I leave this thought, I love you each and every one, and if it is possible I will love you from the other side. When God calls you home it is true happiness, freedom, and life. No more fighting problems, like alcoholism, loneliness, and pain. Hey I am happy, I am going to stay with my grandma Blackwood one last time. We will be watching you. Be good! HA! HA! Oh Lord, I finally got to come home! Love Always, Barry Gene Henson”
Those left to cherish his memory are; his sister, Beverly Diane Herman Hernandez; daughter, Bobbie Jo Lynn Henson (Juan Hernandez); estranged daughter, Beverly; nieces and nephews; Lacey Hernandez Fisher (McCullen Fisher) , Anthony Hernandez, Cameron Hernandez, Candi Hernandez; uncle, Clyde Brown (Peggy); step nephews, Joshua Graves, Jared Garland; and grandchildren, Benny, Emma, Brenda, and Anna Hernandez. As well as his other family members, neighbors, and lovely in-home and nursing home caregivers who helped care for him prior to his death.
Spending time with his family was one of his favorite pastimes. He cherished the special times bonding over a good meal with his dear step niece, Ashley Graves, whom proceeds him in death, as well as, his loving mother; Belvie Joyce Blackwood Garland, his step father; Hubert Garland, his biological father; Jimmy Henson, and his beloved grandmother; Ada Pearl Blackwood.
