Austin Elihue Long, age 90, of Columbia, Tennessee passed away on October 7, 2018 at Maury Regional Medical Center.
Austin was born on March 28, 1928 in Aetna, Tennessee to the late Samuel and Annie Mae Long. Austin was a true gentleman, one of the nicest men you’d ever meet and a wonderful role model. He was a sign painter, having worked for Columbia Neon for many years, a craftsman and a gardener; he enjoyed making furniture and tending his garden. He even raised tomatoes in pots when he could no longer tend to his large garden. Austin and Irene were long time members of Highland Park Baptist Church, where they served faithfully.
Austin is survived by his son, Danny (Rhonda) Long; daughter, Rhonda (Dennis) Smith; grandchildren, Stacey Lauren (Brittany) Long, Elizabeth Danielle Long, Chadwick (Brittney) Smith and Emerald Catherine (Zach) Matson; great granddaughter, Aubrey Beckley and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sarah Irene Long; sisters, Era Cabbage, Jewell Adair and Sarah Long Churchwell; brothers, Joe Edward Long and John Fred Long.
The family will visit with friends on Thursday, October 11, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia. A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 12, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens. Military Honors will be provided by Herbert E. Griffin American Legion Post 19.
Pallbearers are Austin’s nephews.
