Artie Mae Brown Scruggs

Mrs. Artie Mae Brown Kennedy Scruggs, 90, a resident of Summer Street in Mt. Pleasant, died Monday, July 12, 2004, at Maury Regional Hospital.

Funeral services for Mrs. Scruggs will be conducted Thursday, July 15, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Jeff Waldrop officiating. Burial will be in the Arlington Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Will and Mary Alice Lindsey Brown. She was the widow of Woodrow Scruggs and was formerly married to Ernest ?Toot? Kennedy and Fed Lovell. She was a former owner and operator of the Rebel Truck Stop in Mt. Pleasant and a homemaker. Mrs. Scruggs loved playing bingo, quilting and sewing. She was a member of the Sandy Hook Church of Christ.

She is survived by her children, Ruby Scott of Gallatin, TN, Ann Rae Gunter of Lafayette, TN, Mary Libbie Gray of Mt. Pleasant, TN, Jeanne J.W. Johnson of Lewisburg, TN, Donnie Norman Faught of Parsons, TN, William Kay Kennedy of McHenry, MD., Jerry W. Ellen Kennedy of Mt. Pleasant, TN; four sisters, Alice Staggs of Columbia, TN, Ruth Finley, Rachel Scott, and Mildred Henry Davis all of Nashville, TN; two brothers, Lester Brown of Mt. Pleasant, TN and Joe Dot Brown of Columbia, TN; 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Bill Brown, Charlie Brown and Richard Brown; two granddaughters, Janet D. Kennedy and Yvonne Yamasita; one great-great-grandson, Tristan Heatherly.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Thomas Dake, Dr. Gaylon Harris, all of her sons-in-law, and men of the Sandy Hook Church of Christ.
