April Elizabeth Brooks

April Elizabeth Capps Brooks, 83, formerly of Pisgah Ridge in Mount Pleasant, TN, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2024, in Columbia, TN. Born February 13, 1941, in Hopkinsville, KY, to Miles Mayo Capps and Marjorie Capps, April led a life dedicated to family, faith, and helping others.

April married Joe D. Brooks, Jr. in 1959, who was a devoted pastor. Together, they shared a deep love for the Lord and served their community with unwavering faith. She is survived by her children Lorrie Slaugher (Jeff) of Murfreesboro, TN, and Jeffrey Brooks (Robin) of Columbia, TN; grandchildren Jonathan Mann (Laura) of Murfreesboro, TN, Cameron Mann (Amanda) of Cleveland, TN, Skylar Brooks of Columbia, TN, and Chase Slaughter of Murfreesboro, TN; great-grandchildren Lola, Amelia, Abner, Jenna, and Emma; and siblings Viellalar Anderson, Harold Capps, and Susan Frazier. Survivors also include several nieces, nephews, and her constant companion, Cadbury the cat.

April graduated cum laude from the nursing program at Columbia State Community College in 1976, becoming a licensed Registered Nurse. She later received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Psychology from Liberty University. April found great joy in her second career, counseling and supporting at-risk youth.

April was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joe D. Brooks, Jr., son Joe D. Brooks, III, brothers Brady Capps, James Capps, and Miles Capps III, and sister Carrie Mobley.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff and residents of Poplar Estates Assisted Living. Their unwavering dedication, genuine compassion, and exceptional care created a warm and compassionate environment that brought comfort to April in her final days.

Honorary pallbearers will be Cameron Mann, Jonathan Mann, Scott Mann, Chase Slaughter, TJ Brown, Shane Anderson, Matthew Capps, Brian Capps, Stephen Brooks, Chris Brooks, Waverly Jackson, and Barry Brooks. 

The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 3, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia, Tennessee. A graveside for April will be at 12:00 PM on August 4, 2024, at at Pisgah Cemetery in Mount Pleasant, Tennessee. A celebration of life for April will be at 2:00 PM at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia, Tennessee.
