Mr. Alvie "DJ" Simmons, age 64, a resident of 4th Avenue in Columbia, passed away Thursday, March 13, at Maury Regional Hospital.
Funeral services for Mr. Simmons will be conducted Saturday at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. Steve Swango officiating. Burial will be in the Bluff Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Magnolia, MS.
The family will visit with friends on Saturday from 11:00 to the time of service at the funeral home.
Born in Progress, MS, he was the son of Mavis Lucille Schilling Simmons and the late Alvie Lloyd Simmons. He retired from McMillian Blodell in Magnolia, MS, worked for the Tennessean Newspaper, delivered papers for the Daily Herald and owned and operated DJ's Enterprises. He loved to fish and hunt. He attended Loyal Chapel Freewill Baptist Church.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his daughters: Laurie Foster of Columbia and Karen Jeff LeJeune of Nashville; his grandchildren: Emily Foster and Alicia Foster, both of Columbia and Ashley Foster and Hailey LeJeune, both of Nashville; his brothers: Michael Edna Simmons of Walker, LA, Ted Simmons of Baldwin, MS and Terry Debby Simmons of Liberty, MS; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Gloria Stanfill and Whitney Cox, both of Columbia, Brian Cox, Eli Cox, Jessica Newcomb and Ariell Newcomb, all of Centerville.
Honorary pallbearers will be Chester Howell and Steve "Bear" Stanfill.
