Alta Nowlin Powers

December 21, 1915 — February 28, 2004

Mrs. Alta Nowlin Powers, 88, a longtime Mt. Pleasant resident, died Saturday, February 28, 2004 at NHC Columbia.

Funeral services for Mrs. Powers will be conducted, at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday March 3, 2004 at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Reverend Phillip Wright officiating. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday from 4:00 p. m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery.

The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Herschel Reams Nowlin and the late Annie Potts Nowlin and the widow of O. B. Powers who died in 1978. She was a 1934 graduate of Hay Long High School. She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant.

She is survived by a daughter, Sally John Matlack of Columbia, TN and a son, Richard R. Pat Powers of Mt. Pleasant, TN; one granddaughter, Stephanie A. Powers of Mt. Pleasant; three grandsons, Michael J. Margaret Matlack of Dallas, TX, Matthew P. Shannon Matlack of Columbia, MO, Dr. R. Reams Powers Carey of Columbia, TN; three great-grandchildren, Betsy Matlack and Sam Matlack of Dallas, TX and Margaret Patton Powers of Columbia, TN.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church 202 South Main Street Mt. Pleasant, TN 38474.

Pallbearers will be Jim Lindsey, Willie Boyd, Roger Gilliam, Walter Locke, Paul Sands, Tom Hardin, Vance Brummal , Wally Couch, and Jerry Kennedy.

Honorary pallbearers will members of the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant and the nurses and staff of NHC Columbia.
