Allwin Eugene Carpenter, age 90, passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia, Tennessee.
Allwin was born on March 21, 1932, to the late Jimmie Hollis Carpenter and Inez Underwood Carpenter in Maury County, Tennessee.
Allwin was known by many nicknames such as Dib, Dibby, Dad, Pop, Grandpa, and Pawpaw. He adopted the nickname Dibby, working as a pressman for the Daily Herald by his coworkers. He worked as a pressman for almost 40 years at the Daily Herald. He started working there in his early adulthood and when he left for the Army, they held his job for him for his return. He even met his wife, Evelyn, while she was working in advertising, and he was in press. Allwin served his country with pride in the United States Army during the Korean War and earned the rank, Master Sergeant. He was stationed in Germany for several months before his return to the States.
Allwin never met a stranger. He was kindhearted and a good man. Everyone enjoyed talking and spending time with Allwin. Allwin loved to sing, mostly classic hymns he would hear on Sunday mornings at Church. He also loved spending time with his family. It could be fishing with his sons, bird watching, watching westerns and football, or just simply sitting on the porch soaking in the sun. He was happy as long as he was surrounded by family.
