Alexandria Pettus Quinn

Alexandria Pettus Quinn, age 72, resident of Spartanburg, SC, passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at Life Care Center of Columbia.

Alexandria was born November 24, 1944, in Columbia, the daughter of the late Clarence F. Alexander, Jr., and Marian Elizabeth McEwen Alexander. She was a graduate of Hay Long High School in Mt. Pleasant and Spartanburg Community College in SC. Alexandria had worked as a medical transcriptionist for Maury Regional Medical Center and Laurens Hospital in SC. She loved to travel, play bridge and walk. After 18 years of living on a farm, she became a small farmer herself. Alexandria was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Mt. Pleasant.

Survivors include her children, Elizabeth McEwen Pettus McCanless (Sammy) of Columbia and Richard Earl Pettus, Jr., (Judy) of Ocala, FL; grandchildren, Richard Gunnar Pettus, Karsyn Elizabeth McCanless and Brady Samuel McCanless; one sister, Angela Milan and brothers, C.F. Alexander, III and Bill Alexander and the father of her children, Earl Pettus and nieces, Amanda Milan Smith (Brent), and Amelia Milan Evans (Eric) and great niece, Georgia Evans.

The family would like to express their thanks to 5North at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, Dr. Claude Woollen of Spartanburg, SC, the most precious doctor in the world, Ashley Georges at MRMC, Breanna Langley at Hospice Compassus, Moms of Youth at PHBC, Wayne Bone’s SS Class at PHBC, along with her extended friends in Spartanburg and Florida.

A memorial service will be conducted Sunday, May 7, at 3:00 P.M. at the First Presbyterian Church in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Dwight Liles officiating. The family will visit with friends on Sunday from 2:00 – 3:00 P.M. at the church. Per her wishes she will be cremated and her cremated remains to be spread along the creek on the family farm where she played as a child.
