Mrs. Alene E. Birdwell, age 82, a resident of Hidden Acres Drive in Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Monday, November 24, at Hidden Acres Nursing Home in Mt. Pleasant.
Funeral services for Mrs. Birdwell will be conducted Wednesday at 1:00 P.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Bro. Dickie Lindsey officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens.
The family will visit with friends on Tuesday from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
The Limestone County, Alabama native was the daughter of the late Henry Haggard and Ida Bell Crowley Haggard. She was the wife of the late Marvin Floyd Shireman. Mrs. Birdwell was a homemaker and bomb assembler at Redstone Arsenal during WW II. She was of the Baptist Faith.
She is survived by her children: Shirley John Kelly of Mt. Pleasant, Linda Estes of Athens, AL, Betty Long of Columbia and Anita Cothran of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren: Steve Kelly, Johnny Kelly, Teresa Bowser, Pam Kelly, Vickie Livingston, Michael Compton, Melissa Bearden, Bobby Reynolds, Tina Bolding, Amanda Cothran, and Allen Birdwell; 22 great-grandchildren; one brother: Frank Haggard of Winter Haven, FL and two sisters: Amy Belle Burns and Mary Rose Bowers. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one grandson: Scotty Reynolds and one sister: Maude Rose.
Pallbearers will be Steve Kelly, John Kelly, Bobby Reynolds, Allen Birdwell, Michael Compton and Tommy Andrews. Honorary pallbearers will be the Staff of Hidden Acres and Caris Hospice with special thanks to Pam Holland.
