Mr. A. L. "Roy" Wilkinson, age 88, a resident of Gulley Drive in Summertown, passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at his residence.

Funeral services for Mr. Wilkinson will be conducted Friday at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Bro. David Stofel officiating. Burial will follow in the Barnesville Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Army.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday and Thursday at the funeral home.

Born on April 3, 1921 in Lawrenceburg, he was the son of the late George Riley Wilkinson and Sally Lou Phillips Wilkinson. Roy was the husband of the late Betty Jo Laws Wilkinson who preceded him in death in 1996. An Army veteran of WW II, Roy served as a drill sergeant and aviation engineer. He was retired from Stauffer Chemical after 37 years of service as a crane and kiln operator. Roy was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers and the Barnesville Baptist Church.

Survivors include his children: Dennis Wilkinson of Hohenwald, Randall Cindy Wilkinson of Summertown, Darlene Michael Isbell of Columbia, Brenda John Benderman of Mt. Pleasant and Angela Jimmy Burgett of Mt. Pleasant; one brother: Carl Joyce Wilkinson of Columbia; sisters: Vera Davis and Rebecca Davis, both of Ky., and Dellar Payne of Summertown. 20 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and a special friend, Diane Sparkman of Hohenwald. Roy and Betty Jo also helped raise the children and grandchildren of G.A. and Susie Wilkinson. He was preceded in death by one son: Terry Wilkinson and one daughter: Lisa White and a very special friend, Virginia Whitehead.


Pallbearers will be Mike Robbins, Paul Carlton, Ricky Nation, Darrell Wilkinson, David Wilkinson and Carl Dean Wilkinson. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Doug Kennedy and staff, Caris Home Health and physical therapy.
