How can you celebrate the holiday season after losing a loved one?

DIY memorial ornaments can be a small way to hold your loved one close even though they’re no longer in this world. Plus, they’re simple, yet powerful additions to your holiday décor that will only add to the meaning of the holiday.

Memorial ornaments are a powerful addition to any holiday décor, and they can help you feel close to your loved ones even if they’re not with us anymore. Plus, memorials don’t have to be complicated—you could use something as simple as tissue paper for the project!

Need some DIY memorial ornament inspiration? The funeral staff at Williams Funeral Home & Crematory of Columbia, TN made a list to give you an idea:

Fabric Ornaments

Why not use your loved one’s favorite tie, shirt or other piece of clothing to make a festive ornament this year? All you need is some basic crafting supplies and their most treasured article of clothing. Trace any pattern twice onto the material that will serve as the front and back each time; cut out both shapes with scissors before sewing them together, stuffing it in between with cotton balls for added texture.

Don’t forget to add a ribbon or hook to the top so you can hang it on the tree. You can also add embellishments like buttons, glitter, or stitching, or add a short note on the back to explain why the ornament is important for future generations.

Jewelry Ornaments

Your lost loved one doesn’t need their jewelry anymore, so why not turn them into a dazzling tree ornament? You can use earrings, beads and other small items to fill up clear glass or plastic balls. Or you could take necklaces and bracelets that were your loved ones favorite gifts from years ago now turned treasured memories for yourself as part of the Christmas tradition.

Nature Ornaments

If your loved one is a nature lover, make them an outdoor ornament by attaching decorations to pinecones and leaves. You can put ribbons, jingle bells or pompoms on the outside of the decoration for extra flair! This would also be great as a family activity with kids who love crafting too.

Scroll Ornament

Find your favorite memories and write them down on a piece of paper. When you’re finished, get two rods to attach the ends together for a scroll shape. Add some ribbon at each end to make it look nice! You can bring messages back here as time goes by that will remind you how much they mean in your life everyday.

Photo Frame Ornaments

They say that decorations on the tree are a way to remember those who can’t be there with you. Making ornaments from small picture frames is an elegant and economical option for remembering your loved ones this year. If you have more than one lost person in mind, try making wreaths out of pictures instead!

Memory Chains

Cut out strips of paper, like colored construction paper, and write down special messages, memories, or thoughts about your lost loved one. You can even write down jokes, silly stories, qualities you loved about them, or something they taught you. Next, glue the strips together to make a paper chain and hang the chain on your tree.

Any of these ornaments would make a lovely addition to your Christmas tree this holiday season. They would also make wonderful gifts to those who are suffering the loss of a loved one.  Do you want more DIY memorial ornament tips or want more information on cremation services in Columbia, TN ?
