Bob Vassar was born in Huntsville, Alabama. After graduating from Lee High School he attended the University of Alabama in Huntsville then transferred to Samford University in Birmingham, AL where he received his BA degree with a major in religion and a minor in sociology.

In 1980 he received the Master of Divinity Degree from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY.

He and his wife Lisa moved to Columbia, TN in 1992. They have three daughters, Mary (Josh), Taylor, Sara Vassar and Rachel Vassar and two grandsons, Jackson and Austin Taylor.

Bob is the retired Sr. Pastor of Pleasant Heights Baptist Church having been given the honorary title of Pastor Emeritus of the Church on December 31, 2014.
